December 2006
Annual
One-Day Holiday Sale
Reminder:
Shoreline Golf Links is once again hosting a holiday sale. The annual event
will be held on Friday, December 8. Sale hours have been extended in order
to accommodate more shoppers and reduce the amount of time customers spend
in line. The sale will begin when the Pro Shop doors open in the morning and
will conclude at 7:00 p.m. All regularly priced Pro Shop merchandise will be
discounted by 20%. Please note: for golf balls, the discount is on golf ball
sleeve prices, not on dozen prices and there are no discounts on selected
Callaway and Ping products.
Update - Renovation of the 18th Green
As most of you have already seen, construction work on the 18th Green is
essentially complete. To refresh your memory, or in case you did not know,
the 18th Green had experienced a number of problems caused by differential
settlement of the landfill under the area. There were very few options for
pin placement. After review, staff believed it was appropriate to submit a
request for funding to the City Council to renovate the green. The Council
approved the project as part of the City’s Capital Improvement Program for
2006-07. The project started in October. Weather permitting, we hope to open
the green in February or March.
Temporary Green Development – 13th
Steve Crane, our Golf Course Superintendent, has been concerned that the
area in the vicinity of 13 green is underwater for a good portion of the
winter. We had hoped to bring in soil, modify the grading, install
additional drains and generally take care of the problem. Maintenance staff
began the process for a temporary green earlier this fall. Other issues on
the course arose which prevented staff from getting the soil imported before
the rainy season set in. We will most likely postpone the work on 13 until
Spring. We are also considering submitting a request to the City Council to
renovate the entire 13th green as part of the City’s Capital Improvement
Program for 2007-08.
Shoreline Road Project
Work continues on the Shoreline Road Project. As you may have noticed, the
road into the park during the winter is often under water. Even with
pumping, we cannot remove enough water to clear the low areas. This is
inconvenient for the many visitors to the park and also not optimal for
emergency response by police of fire staff. Over the years, the road sunk
due to differential settlement of the landfill underneath. In many places,
the drains are lower than the road itself. The current project will remedy
that situation. We hope to have the roads completed by December or early
January with landscaping work to follow.
