Shoreline nuisance bird program
Why: To reduce the number of American coots and Canada geese that congregate
and damage the golf course during the winter, and reduce the number of
Canada geese that nest during the spring, the City of Mountain View will
implement a nuisance bird abatement program
What: The City of Mountain View will remove water from three hazard ponds
(between holes #11 and 12, near holes #17 and #10), will begin treatment of
turf on greens and fairways with a biodegradable bird deterrent in areas of
high bird density, will continue active management of roosting coots and
geese using motorized boats and herding dogs, will install fencing between
hazard ponds and adjacent turf to make it more difficult for birds to move
between roosting and foraging areas. Additionally, the City of Mountain View
will continue the process of goose population stabilization on a regional
basis beginning in spring 2009.
When: Beginning in early October 2008, the golf course will begin lowering
the ponds by using the water to irrigate the golf course. Pond lowering will
take approximately two weeks. Ponds may remain at low levels through
February 2009.
Green aerification
Green aerification will take place September 30 and October 1. The front
nine will be done Tuesday and the back nine on Wednesday.
